October is here! The nights are getting darker, the air is getting cooler and pumpkin spice lattes are EVERYWHERE. For some people, including myself, the shorter days can put me in a little bit of a downer.

But fret not! I have a solution on how to keep your evenings happy and bright. Something simple that everyone can partake in. Kitchen dancing.

There's is something about dancing in the kitchen that brings me such joy. So many evenings have been spent with my mum and sister dancing like loons in our long and thin kitchen. Don't ask us why, it's just something we have done for years!

So, in the spirit of brightening up your dark evenings, here are my top kitchen dancing tunes!

Earth, Wind and Fire - September

September may well be over, but this song is perfect for boogying no matter the month. I honestly can't listen to the tune without at least tapping my feet. This song, along with the next two mentioned are songs my uni pals and I danced to to prep for our dissertation, so will forever have a place in my heart.

Estelle (ft Kanye West) - American Boy

If you went to high school in the noughties and don't know the Kanye rap in this song, where were you?? Living under a rock?? This song is INCREDIBLE, from start to finish, and has some of the greatest lyrics. I mean, mentioning Ribena in a rap verse? ICONIC

Toploader - Dancing In The Moonlight

Quite possibly my favourite song of all time. Seriously, I want it playing at my wedding, funeral and the birth of my first child. I can be in the worst mood ever yet as soon as I hear this song I have a huge grin on my face. If you don't believe the healing powers of this song, just put it on. You'll be happy in no time.

Van Morrison -Brown Eyed Girl

Known in our family as Mum and Chloe's song, Brown Eyed Girl is such a treat of a song. The girls in my family love busting out some old school twisting moves to this song. And it's imperative that you sing 'sha-la-la-la-la-la-la' at the top of your voice, no matter how tuneless.

Oasis - She's Electric

Another song close to my Mum and I. She often tells me the story of how she used to bounce me around to this song when I was little, shortly after she became a single mum. The lyrics resonate so much with me and my crazy family, and if it comes on the radio in the kitchen, it's guaranteed Mum and I will be having a swing.

Underworld - Born Slippy

I fully believe that everyone needs a good rave now and again, and this club classic should be the song you rave to. I'm not a huge dance music fan, but I adore this song. 7 minutes jumping around to this song will tire you out but bring you so much joy.

Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag

I have vivid memories of dancing in my Dad's kitchen to this song and I must have only been 7 or 8 years old. It's chorus is great for doing 'busted jumps' and air guitar, something that pre-teen Megan was very into. It's now become a kind of cult classic in the music world, and will get full student union clubs bouncing around to it. I'm sure we can all agree how fab this song is. All together now... 'I'VE GOT TWO TICKETS TO IRON MAIDEN BABYYYYYYYYYYY'.

HAPPY DANCING
