Dark Arts Jelly Bomb Review

Like most people, I've been a fan of Lush for a long time, and whenever they launch new products I am always eager to try them.

They have recently launched a range of Jelly bath bombs (Dark Arts, The Big Sleep, Green Coconut and Marmalade).

I bought one of the Dark Arts bombs during my latest Lush shop, and was also given one as a leaving gift from Disney.

The Dark Arts Jelly Bomb has recieved quite a lot of media attention, with lots of people describing it as a Harry Potter inspired bath bomb. As a huge Harry Potter fan I was eager to give it a go.

Whenever I get something new from Lush I am always impatient and want to try them out as soon as possible. With that in mind, after a gym trip, I ran a bath and dropped the jelly bomb in.

The Dark Arts fizzes a lot and moves around the bath quite quickly. I like bath bombs that do this as I think it helps create really cool patterns in the water. Within seconds of the Dark Arts being in the water the bath was pretty black, and certainly looked like something you would find in one of Hermione's cauldrons.

After about a minute, the jelly bomb started to release pink coloured fizz. This was fun to watch as it contrasted with the darkness of the bath, however the pink does fade very quickly.

When I was speaking to one of the workers in Lush, they described how the Jelly bombs leave a jelly layer on the top of water. I was really intrigued by this, and it was one of the main reasons why I decided to try it. However the bomb didn't seem to leave a layer of jelly, it was more like a few tar blobs floating around the water. The blobs weren't particularly pleasing to the eye. Perhaps the jelly pieces in the other bombs look nicer, but the black blobs that appeared with this jelly bomb were really offputting. The bath bomb also made quite a big mess of my bath, and it took me a good five minutes after the water had drained to clean the black gooey mess off. If you are looking for a relaxing bath bomb to have in an evening, I would not recommended the Dark Arts Jelly Bomb due to the amount of cleaning up you have to do afterwards.

I really enjoyed the smell of the Dark Arts bomb. The the orange, cinnamon and almonds scents that go into it create a spicy but sweet aroma which was particularly relaxing. Like every Lush bomb I have used so far, this one left my skin feeling so soft, which is one of the main reasons why I use them.

To summarise, I think the idea behind the Dark Arts bomb is really interesting, and using the Harry Potter link really draws people to try it. However, I don't think the execution of the product is up to the right standard yet. Lush do many other bath bombs that have a similar smell, so in future I would steer away from this particular bomb and purchase something else.
